Myles Garrett: Breaking the Sack Record Is “Only a Matter of Time”

For Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns, the question isn’t whether he can break the NFL single-season sack record — it’s when. Garrett recently made that bold assertion publicly, putting the entire league on notice as he charges toward defensive history.

This season Garrett has torn through offensive lines with a juggernaut’s force. Through 11 games he has already racked up 18 sacks, more than the total of many entire NFL teams so far this season. That number also solidified a new franchise single-season record for Cleveland — surpassing the 16-sack mark he had previously set twice (2021 and 2022).

According to official records, Garrett needs just five more sacks over the final six games to surpass the long-standing 22.5-sack record, held jointly by Michael Strahan (2001) and T.J. Watt (2021).

But this isn’t just about math. Garrett’s recent stretch has been historic. In his last four games alone, he has posted 13 sacks — a pace unmatched in recent NFL history. One analyst summed it up bluntly: for Garrett, breaking the record seems “inevitable.”

Even Garrett seems unmoved by the pressure. “I don’t even think about it as a want. I just think about something that I’m going to get done,” he said. “It’s just how far I’m gonna take it.”

There’s also growing buzz that this isn’t just a defensive season — it’s an MVP-caliber one. With the Browns’ offense continuing to struggle, Garrett’s dominance has become the focal point. Some analysts argue he’s done more to keep Cleveland relevant this year than any other player in the league at his position.

Still, the path ahead isn’t easy. The remaining games include matchups against teams known for solid offensive lines and schemes designed to neutralize pass rushers. Plus, sustaining elite performance over nearly two more months will demand peak physical and mental consistency. But if the last several weeks are any indicator, Garrett appears up to the task.

If he succeeds, it would rewrite NFL history and deepen his legacy — not just for the Browns, but for football’s sack elite. And for now, he’s saying the only real question is timing.
